Silksong celebrates its release on September 4, 2025. However, the rush is so great that the Steam store and the Nintendo eShop are struggling to keep up.
What kind of game is this?
- Silksong, the successor to Hollow Knight, is set to launch on Steam on September 4, 2025.
- The Metroidvania is currently the most wished-for game on Steam, and thousands of people are eagerly awaiting the game’s release.
- However, the launch is causing unexpected problems on Steam and in the Nintendo eShop.
Steam store is down, won’t let you buy Silksong
What are the current issues? Steam appears to be overwhelmed by the influx of people wanting to buy the game directly at release for around 20 euros. If you want to purchase the game, there are currently several problems:
- The shop page for Silksong does not load and you get a black screen.
- You receive an error message when trying to add the game to the cart.
- You can add the game to the cart, but the cart remains empty, does not show the game, or closes with an error.
- If you do manage to get to the cart, you receive an error that you cannot complete the payment. An error message appears.
What can be done about it? Currently, there is no real solution to the problems. In a test, we tried to purchase Silksong with another game in the cart. There is also an error message here.
The Steam store is not the only shop experiencing issues. Gamesradar reports that the Nintendo eShop is also said to be affected.
Silksong already has 100,000 players shortly after release
Many players must have already purchased the game, as it is already among the top 20 on Steam. Currently (as of 04.09.25, 16:40), more than 100,000 players are already playing Hollow Knight: Silksong.
The number of players is expected to rise further as there are currently issues with purchasing on Steam and other platforms.
