A new feature could soon ensure that arena defenders cannot stay in an arena indefinitely. Pokémon GO trainers would have to take care of their monsters.
The new Pokémon GO update 0.61.0 may offer much more than what the developers explained in the patch notes. Data mining reveals interesting new lines in the game’s code that could announce new features and functions. As long as there are no official announcements from Niantic, it is unknown if and when these features will be implemented in the game. So enjoy the following information with caution and do not see it as a firm promise.
Despite all warnings, the discovered code lines are making the hearts of many trainers race, as something seems to be happening in the arena system. In the future, a feature could be activated that would require you to feed your arena defenders. If you do not do so, they will leave the arena and come home.
Arena defenders get hungry too
During data mining, Pokémon experts regularly look at the latest updates and investigate them for unnamed changes. In the update 0.61.0, lines mentioning the arena imply that Pokémon are hungry.
This suggests that your monsters will need to be “fed” after a certain period or after a specific number of battles in order to remain in the arena. It’s expected that trainers will need to visit the respective arenas to feed their monsters, or else they will leave the arena.

The experts at TheSilphRoad are still analyzing the code and trying to determine what is significant about this code and when the arena overhaul will take place. Niantic announced weeks ago that they are not satisfied with the current function of the arenas and want to overhaul them soon.
But that’s not all: On the Pokémon Blog, the developers thank over 65 million Pokémon GO players worldwide. They also announce that trainers can “look forward to the new social and cooperative gameplay.”
This may already be a hint that a new update is not that far away. Regarding cooperative gameplay, many more promising hints have been found during data mining.
Raids in Pokémon GO? Storming arenas with multiple players?
The analysis of the code also revealed hints on possible raids in Pokémon GO. Again, it should be noted that this information has not been officially confirmed by Niantic, but has only appeared in the code thus far. The lines indicate that nearby raids are about to start.

This feature could mean that trainers can team up with other members of the same team in the future to attack arenas together. The concept of these raids is currently only conjectured and consists purely of speculation based on the displayed code.
