The upcoming online melee game Absolver shows what it has to offer in multiplayer – Coop and PvP.
On August 29, Absolver will be released on PS4 and PC. In this online melee game, you take on the role of a masked fighter who must prove themselves in an open world to become an Absolver – a member of an elite unit.
In this world, you’re not alone – on your journey, you will encounter NPCs and other players.
The developers at Slocap explain how multiplayer will work in Absolver and what Coop and PvP aspects there will be in a new video:
Coop in Absolver – the cooperative fight
In Absolver, there is a city named Raslan, which is supposed to consist of a dozen connected zones. When you move from one zone to another, you will be grouped together with one or two players without loading times.
You can decide how you want to interact with the players. Either you ignore them, fight them, or team up with them.
According to the developers, the online structure of Absolver is not only meant to allow random players to meet. You can also team up with known people: By meditating in front of an altar, it becomes possible to invite recently met players or people in your friends list. Together, you can then experience adventures in Absolver in Coop.
In Absolver, there are mentors and students
There is a special feature in Absolver regarding Coop: players can enter into mentor-student relationships.
This means that advanced players can establish a school of combat, which other players may join. The school of combat is based on the mentor’s playstyle: their fight deck, their weapons, and their powers.
For explanation: Absolver has a complex combat system where each player can create their own fighting style. You can combine different attacks and thus create your own gameplay flow.
The students can utilize and learn this playstyle of the mentor in the school of combat. Because not all attacks are available from the start: You learn them by defeating other players who master these attacks, or by finding a mentor.
The competitive aspect of Absolver – PvP
In Absolver, you not only fight together but also against each other. PvP plays a significant role.
At launch, there will be a 1v1 mode that takes place in several arenas. Here you can challenge random opponents or friends. You must bring the opponent to their knees three times to claim victory.
During a fight, you also have to pay attention to environmental hazards. The terrain may change in some arenas.
After launch, there will be additional PvP features, such as a 3v3 mode, ranked matches, or a spectator mode.
