The 2nd season of HBO’s The Last of Us is set to release in 2025, but after the first trailer, many fans are unsure if they are ready for it. The series tackles the harrowing story of The Last of Us Part 2.
What is The Last of Us about? The series is based on the video games of the same name by developer Naughty Dog, in which a fungus transforms humans into zombie-like monsters. In this world, Ellie and Joel meet, and over time, they develop a close father-daughter relationship.
The second season will deal with the story of The Last of Us Part 2. Ellie and Joel have settled in with his brother Tommy in Jackson, a small community. However, one day, this idyll is set to come to a tragic end. Players know the reason, and the trailer for Season 2 hints at it as well.

What does the trailer show? At the beginning, Joel is seen with a blonde woman, who is presumably a therapist. She asks him to start, but Joel remains silent, and instead, we see images from Jackson and later events in the story.
The new trailer opens old wounds
Some new characters from the game are already visible in the trailer, including Dina, Jesse, Isaac, and Abby. For those who have played Part 2, many scenes will already seem familiar. Great effort has been made to accurately recreate them.
How are fans reacting? In the comments under the trailer on YouTube, most are sure that the upcoming season will not be a walk in the park. Some even doubt whether they can bring themselves to watch it at all.
- jfsm9614: “Oh, this season is going to hurt… a lot.”
- Jerrshington: “I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready for this season… But I would love to try.”
- BATJAX: “Ready to cry my eyes out again.”
To say that The Last of Us Part 2 tells a heartbreaking story would be an understatement. Nevertheless, the reactions of many players towards some of the people involved were disproportionately cruel. One actress even needs more security now because her character is so hated by fans.
