What is the Treasure Map about? The Treasure Map is the new item planned for the upcoming patch v.8.00 in Season 8. According to the description, you should be able to search the island for hidden loot with it.
What can the Treasure Map do? Leaks and speculation
What exactly the map does is currently unclear. However, there is already a leak revealing sound files and graphics. We know there are graphics for shovels and special chests. Sound files for digging have also surfaced.
Those who study the leaked graphic of the map see that there is a large “X” visible southeast of the Volcano. If you visit that spot in the game, you will actually see a few stones lying in an X shape. However, you cannot interact with it (yet).
How could the Treasure Map work? On the Forbes page and in comments, there is already a lively discussion about the function of the map. It could be that the map appears as an item in chests or as ground loot.
Those who use it will find out where the treasure is and can loot it. The treasure is likely to be a hefty supply of legendary weapons and items, similar to a Supply Llama or the gifts at Christmas.
The situation would be particularly exciting if the Treasure Map only existed once and revealed the location for all players in the round. This would lead to a race for the treasure, as seen in the Season 8 trailer.
Alternatively, it would also be cool if the map doesn’t show a specific location but rather a vague drawing of the treasure location. Such hints were given in past seasons weekly in the challenges.
For the past two seasons, Epic hasn’t done that anymore, but who knows if these fun treasure hunts will come back through the map.
What do you think the new Treasure Map will do? I, Jürgen, would actually like to have the concept of a treasure hunt for everyone. It would significantly change the gameplay of Fortnite from the moment the map is found and motivate some players to embark on a wild hunt for the treasure.
