The new Compound Update introduces so-called “Safe Zones” in the survival multiplayer Rust. Players will be able to engage in trading peacefully in these NPC-guarded zones, gain access to vending machines, and generally behave a bit more socially.
Rust belongs to the type of survival multiplayer games that don’t have many rules.
Players can join clans and cooperate, or they can also betray, shoot, and rob each other. There are no penalties for “misbehavior.”
Fair trading should be facilitated
That’s why the developer of Rust with the aptly named “Facepunch” decided to offer players a way to conduct essential trading for survival in safe areas.
What facilities are available in the safe zones? Free trading is not the only advantage that the zones will bring.
According to Facepunch, players within the zones will also have access to the following facilities and resources:
- Refinery
- Workbenches
- Recycler
- Water storage
- Vending machines
From the vending machines, players will be able to obtain the basic resources needed for survival in the game.
Behave yourself, or you’ll get a bullet in the head
To ensure peace and order in the zones, Facepunch has decided to establish some rules of conduct.
These rules are simple:
- No killing
- No looting
- No bringing weapons
- No sleeping inside or just outside the safe zone.
One should therefore try to avoid being a jerk.
And those who do not follow the rules will be duly shot to pulp by automated turrets.
The player will then be marked as a “hostile target” by the scientist NPCs and cannot return to the safety of the zone for 5 minutes. This status remains even after death.
The only way out of the situation is: Wait until the 5 minutes are up.
As long as you follow the rules, you can stay in the safe zones as long as you want. There is no time limit.
The development team also plans to keep a close eye on the zones to prevent potential exploitation by players.
Facepunch fights against cheating
The Compound Update will also implement new items such as the diving suit and underwater explorations, but most importantly, it will include a whole range of measures against cheating in Rust.
Facepunch indicated that the “cheating situation in the past year has been far from ideal” and that “there is no excuse for how long it took to implement these measures.”
