Studio Jagex brings its MMO classics RuneScape and Old School RuneScape to mobile devices. In the future, a new system will enable cross-play between the platforms PC, smartphone, or tablet. Old School RuneScape will be available on mobile devices this winter 2017. RuneScape will follow shortly after.
Imagine playing a complex MMORPG on your smartphone or tablet while on the bus or train. This has never been done in any Western MMORPG before. Studio Jagex will change that.

Jagex will bring Old School RuneScape to smartphones and tablets this winter. Old School RuneScape is an older version of the fantasy MMORPG from 2007. Through surveys, players can decide which weekly updates make it into the game.
The “regular” RuneScape will follow shortly after, but no exact date has been announced yet. Players who leave the PC can continue seamlessly on their mobile device of choice. Once the app is opened, the MMORPG starts exactly at the point where the player left off in their adventure. The same applies vice versa.
Jagex found in a player survey that there is significant interest in mobile devices. CEO Phil Mansell explained in an official statement that Jagex aims to heavily invest in the mobile market in the future.
Recent player surveys have shown that an overwhelming 90% of active and 64% of inactive players are very interested in playing the game on mobile devices. Our innovative approach to the mobile version also speaks to our ambitions in the mobile market and is further proof that we want to expand the RuneScape franchise to more devices and areas,” – Phil Mansell, CEO of Jagex.
