The little Ezekiel, lovingly called “Zeke” by his parents, passed away after a premature birth at only 4 months. Now, hundreds of players gathered in RuneScape to pay their last respects to the brave little one.
How did the memorial service come about? It has been a year since little Ezekiel passed away after a premature birth at only 4 months old. For his first birthday, the grieving father wanted to commemorate his son in a special way.
For this, he spontaneously invited the players of RuneScape on Reddit to meet at a specific time at an NPC in the village of Al Kharid, who also goes by the name “Zeke”. The invitation was accompanied by a (heartbreaking) image of the little rascal as well as an in-game screenshot displaying the NPC.
Anyone who wants to try (Old School) RuneScape can do so on Steam:
“I love this community”
How did the community respond to the invitation? Hundreds of players showed up to honor “Zeke”. Many characters brought flower seeds or had a blue heart above their heads (triggered by a prayer). They planted the fast-growing seeds into the ground and left heartfelt messages in the chat.
jschules was present and writes on Reddit: “Thank you for the invitation; hundreds of people came to support the beautiful memorial service. My condolences, and I hope this community could bring you some joy.”
celeryman3 adds under the comment on Reddit: “I love this community. It’s incredible that everyone took the time to pause their grind and express their condolences.”
Besides the countless condolences, there were also some players who dared to share their own misfortunes with Zeke’s father and the community.
In a second post on Reddit, the visibly moved father of Ezekiel thanks for this unique experience:
“Thank you to everyone who saw the post and expressed their condolences. It was overwhelming to see so many people in Zeke’s shop. It was also nice to hear your stories. We have an incredible community with the biggest hearts. Zeke will forever remain in our family’s hearts, and I can’t wait to see him again. Rest in peace, Zeke!”
