For 20 years, fans have been waiting for a new installment of Baldur’s Gate. Now the developers have announced that the role-playing game will be surprisingly released earlier – but only on Steam.
What kind of game is this?
- With “Baldur’s Gate 3”, the latest part of the popular role-playing series “Baldur’s Gate” is set to be released in 2023. The game is being developed by Larian Studios.
- The turn-based role-playing game uses an isometric perspective and also offers a co-op mode where you can play together with up to three friends.
- The “Baldur’s Gate” series was initiated in the 1990s and is a spin-off of “Dungeons and Dragons”.
- With Baldur’s Gate 2, the last installment of the series was released over 20 years ago. Since then, fans have been waiting for a sequel.
- In June, the developers also shared some insights into the open world of Baldur’s Gate 3 in a video. Shortly before, the legendary city that gives the game its name was shown.
Developers move the Steam release – but forward
How is the release shifting? Baldur’s Gate 3 was originally scheduled to be released on August 31, 2023, for PC via Steam as well as for the PS5.
However, Larian Studios has now announced that the release of the role-playing game will be postponed. The PC release of Baldur’s Gate 3 is now on August 3, 2023, almost a month earlier than originally planned.
But while PC players can rejoice over the shift, PS5 players will have to wait nearly a week longer. On Sony’s console, Baldur’s Gate 3 will only be released on September 6, 2023.
How eagerly the role-playing game is awaited by fans was already seen in the past, as Baldur’s Gate 3 was already among the top sellers on Steam in 2021, even though it had not been released at that time.
