It’s time for our MeinMMO format “MMORPG News in Two Minutes.” We summarize the most important news from the best genre in the world. Look forward to a Rift update, plenty of WoW, the Chrono Odyssey beta and much more.
The highlights of the week:
- In World of Warcraft, this week Patch 11.1.7 has gone live and brought various new features. Among them is a stylish mount – a black dragon in pirate attire. You would actually need a full 5 weeks to achieve the achievement, but the first players have already done it in just two hours.
- Tip: In the depths, WoW players can currently farm absurd amounts of Golden Shields.
- Blizzard has already provided a preview of Patch 11.2 for WoW. You can expect the largest raid boss of all time and a new artifact cloak that transforms you into energy.
- Phase 5 of the WoW Classic 20th Anniversary Edition starts on July 11, 2025 – with the opening of Ahn’Qiraj and new class armor sets. You can find the details at worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com.
- Surprise! A new update for Rift is set to be released on June 24. This would be the first update since May 2022. The information comes from dataminers who contacted the current community manager of Rift after their findings. Look forward to the return of the summer festival, a new mount and more. You can find more details at thegharstation.com.
What else has happened? From June 20 to June 22, 2025, there will be a closed beta for Chrono Odyssey on Steam. It is the first time that such a large number of players will be unleashed on the servers. The distribution of invitations is expected to be staggered. Servers will be available for North America, Europe, and Asia. Everything important about Chrono Odyssey can be found here.
The latest trailer for Chrono Odyssey comes from the Summer Game Fest 2025:
The comeback of Reckful moves the WoW community
This happened with the big MMORPGs:
- The current expansion Dawntrail for Final Fantasy XIV has been met with backlash from the community since its release. With the last patch, new reviews also rolled in on Steam. The well-known YouTuber Zepla now responds to an article about it and criticizes what fans have loved about the devs for years.
- Speaking of which: The new field operation Kreszentia, a very classic MMO content in Final Fantasy XIV, is just a few weeks old. In an interview, two developers recently revealed that there should be more rewards because players have repeatedly complained.
- In Final Fantasy XIV there are some very rare mounts. One of them is locked behind over 200 hours and 3,000 hunting boss grinds. A player has received it anyway.
- With a small trick, you can significantly improve the graphics of World of Warcraft. You just need a macro for the “glasses effect”.
- Do you often leave your teammates hanging in World of Warcraft? That will soon have consequences because everyone will see what a jerk you are.
- A Hero of the Alliance from World of Warcraft is becoming a supervillain. It requires a lot of endurance – and perhaps too much time.
- The development of a character in World of Warcraft has not been well received by fans. A major hero from the past behaves quite differently.
- Typically, a group in World of Warcraft needs tank, healer, and DDs. But if tanks are not interested, they simply exclude the others. Yes, this also applies to higher Mythic+ levels.
- When the popular WoW player and streamer Byron “Reckful” Bernstein died in the summer of 2020 at just 31 years old, thousands of players gathered in World of Warcraft to mourn the loss together. This week, his account celebrated a surprising but probably brief comeback.
- With a teaser, the developers of Black Desert hinted at playblackdesert.com the next class. Parts of the community are strongly expecting the iconic Monkey King. Additionally, on June 19, a fresh, almost 8 GB patch went live, which brings a new boss to the servers among other things. You can find the patch notes at playblackdesert.com.
- In Guild Wars 2, Dragon Bash 2025 has started. From brawls against dragons to bets on Moas – you can expect a variety of activities. The details can be found at guildwars2.com.
- The new season of the MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online was also launched on the consoles this week with a new trailer. However, the anticipation for it is relatively low. Additionally, the event “Zenithar’s Zeal” has started. This runs until July 8, 2025 and rewards honest work. The details can be found at elderscrollsonline.com.
- A gaming magazine has already been able to try out Chrono Odyssey for themselves, but delivers a rather disappointing first impression: Oh dear… the biggest new MMORPG of 2025 is said to be just a “poor imitation” of New World.
- Players of Throne and Liberty can look forward to a PvP arena event this month, performance optimizations, balancing improvements, and meta changes (via YouTube). The associated patch is scheduled for June 26, 2025. Here you can see the current episode of “Tico Talks”:
This happened with the small MMORPGs:
- On June 30, 2025, the new update “Abyssal Depths” of Albion Online will be released. If the developers’ plan goes well, it could be especially worthwhile to dive into the MMORPG from Berlin for the first time.
- The mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV is now live and allows players to dive into the world of Eorzea on their smartphones and tablets. However, this does not apply to everyone and the monetization differs significantly from the original.
- The 18-year-old MMORPG 4Story has now received a kind of relaunch on Steam . 4Story: The Original could hardly have started worse. Many players are particularly bothered by one thing.
- For several months now, the transition to the new servers has been taking place in Lord of the Rings Online. Now the developers have set a deadline by which you must move in order to continue playing. Additionally, the midsummer festival has started, and you can find the guide at lotro.com. The event runs until July 8.
- On June 16, a new update for RuneScape was released, mainly focusing on crafting, with more options and new rewards. You can find the details at runescape.com.
- The people behind Pearl Abyss (Black Desert) are reportedly looking to sell CCP Games and EVE Online, and are currently seeking interested buyers (via mmorpg.org.pl).
- Update 120 for Ultima Online has been released, and you can find the patch notes at uo.com. Additionally, the almost 28-year-old MMORPG has now received its own Discord channel, which you can access via discord.com/invite/ultimaonline.
- The new developers behind Defiance are currently releasing the various DLCs that were once launched for the MMORPG. So far, 3 DLCs are live, and the latest is the 7th Legion (via massivelyop.com).
This happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- The Quinfall has a new referral system, allowing you to recruit friends and earn rewards. Additionally, new login bonuses for newcomers are on the way. You can find all the details at Steam.
- The Nordic MMORPG Legend of YMIR has been playable in South Korea since the beginning of the year. Now an English website for the game has gone live at legendofymir.com. There is currently no information on a Western launch.
- The people at Netmarble have announced Vampir, a new dark fantasy MMORPG for PC and mobile devices, which is set to be released in South Korea sometime in 2026 and is expected to differ significantly from the company’s previous games (like Ni No Kuni: Cross Worlds) (via mmorpg.org.pl).
- On Discord, the developers of Pax Dei took the time to answer questions from the community. This time the focus was on the sound of the MMORPG. Spoiler: No goats were harmed to simulate the painfully realistic screams of the animals.
- On June 17, Patch 0.16.717 for Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen was released. There were bug fixes, class changes, new camera options, and more. You can find the patch notes at pantheonmmo.com.
- BitCraft Online is set to start on Steam later than planned in Early Access, now on June 21, 2025. You should definitely keep an eye on the new MMORPG for good reasons.
- With Eldramoor: A Fantasy VR MMORPG, another Kickstarter campaign for a VR MMORPG has been prepared. The developers have not yet revealed how much money they aim to raise. However, you can already find details about the game at kickstarter.com.
Thus, we have summarized the most important things that have recently happened in the world of MMORPGs.
