A look at old games holds many surprises. Because even if some titles have been around for years, they can still impress with their graphics. Some users came across this on Reddit.
How time flies. Beloved games suddenly grow older and, compared to current titles, do not look that great anymore. This is realized when one reaches for the dusty library on Steam and Co. after a long time and retrieves long-forgotten titles.
The surprise is even greater when a game still looks really good. This experience was made by a user on Reddit. He shared a screenshot from the shooter Battlefield 4 and wrote: ‘I am amazed that this graphics were possible in 2013.’

According to the user InvidiuousPlay, one reason for the beautiful graphics is that the lighting is pre-rendered and not calculated live. In English, this is called ‘baked lighting’. While this means the light cannot change, so a change of time of day is excluded, the image can be all the more consciously designed.
The user JakeEaton even finds that graphics have stagnated a bit since 2013. When looking at the technological progress between 1994 and 2004, there was a much bigger leap than between 2013 and 2024, he writes.
