The positive reactions to Rockstar Games’ announcement of the open-world western game Red Dead Redemption 2 even surprised the developers.
They could have guessed it, though, because fans have been asking for a sequel for years. The predecessor was a great success, and GTA 5 has shown how well Rockstar Games’ titles are received. It was somehow clear that the response to a new game would be very positive. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explains that they were very pleased that the announcement was received so positively.
Now is the right time for RDR 2
The trailer was better received than the studio thought. The number of people who watched the trailer exceeds what Take-Two and Rockstar Games expected. Expectations for the open-world game are huge. For the first game, there was a belief that the western setting would not work, but they tried it anyway. Because sometimes Westerns are very well received under certain conditions. And Red Dead Redemption showed that this was indeed the case. Now is exactly the right time to bring out another western game.
They now want to offer a large, expansive, and optimistic view of America, but it will not be sweet. Red Dead Redemption 2 is supposed to provide a very deep emotional gaming experience. It will offer great story and great gameplay elements.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to be released in Fall 2017 and will also feature an online mode. However, nothing is known about it yet.
