The online shooter Realm Royale was considered a promising competitor to Fortnite and PUBG. On Steam, it launched a few weeks ago with some fanfare. However, recently the title has lost a tremendous number of players. But why is that?
Realm Royale in a downward trend
Massive player loss; In June 2018, Realm Royale launched its Early Access phase with more than 104,000 concurrent players according to Steamcharts. In the last 30 days, only about 14,000 peak players remain. In August, Realm Royale even reached only 9,000 peak players.
Average players fell from 32,811 (in June 2018) to 6,328 (in the last 30 days). And the numbers are continuously weakening. These are huge losses.
The reviews on Steam also show a strong negative trend. Fans are annoyed.
Players find: Realm Royale has been “patched to death”
What happened? Realm Royale had the potential to compete with Fortnite and PUBG. Even many streamers supported the title. In the Steam reviews, it is noted that the developers have “broken” Realm Royale with the recent updates.
- The focus of the title is now too much on random-based loot that you receive in battles
- Too powerful weapons encourage players to use these instead of considering the heroes’ skills
- The unique elements of Realm Royale are increasingly being sidelined. This includes skills, legendary weapons, and the interplay between classes
- The best weapons in the game had to be crafted by hunting players who left in-game currency when defeated. This is no longer the case
- Realm Royale initially skillfully mixed Battle Royale and RPG elements. Now, the RPG features such as classes and skills hardly play a role
- The online shooter is currently plagued by nasty bugs and cheaters are rampant
- Streamers are turning their backs on the game, leading to less and less attention
- According to many fans, the developers ignore community feedback and do their own thing
The developers must react!
What will happen to Realm Royale? Fans agree: Realm Royale was a good and unique game at launch that brought fresh air to the battle royale genre.
However, the developers’ recent decisions seem to some fans as if they are developing Realm Royale without considering the wishes of the community. The critical fans have the impression that the developers are neglecting the things that made the shooter unique.
This leads to Realm Royale finding fewer and fewer followers.
This is what fans demand: A “reset” to release status and further development in collaboration with the community could still turn the tide.
