Some people have built a working Servo-Skull from Warhammer 40,000 and proved themselves to be real Tech-Priests.
Who are these Tech-Priests? They roam around the YouTube channel “The Thought Emporium”, which has about 2.12 million subscribers. There are numerous videos where the channel operators conduct crazy scientific experiments.
In a new video, “The Thought Emporium” recreates a working Servo-Skull from Warhammer 40,000. It not only looks accurate but can also receive commands and even levitate.
With a few tricks to the floating secretary skull
How does this Servo-Skull work? Since some technologies from Warhammer 40,000 do not exist in the real world (at least not yet), the team had to trick a bit with some aspects – for example, to make the Servo-Skull float.
In the lore, Servo-Skulls used an anti-gravity motor to float. However, the Tech-Priests of “The Thought Emporium” use an electromagnetic coil combined with a magnet and a sensor.
The sensor is there to measure the distance between the magnet and the coil. It ensures that the magnet is neither too close nor too far away. This way, it remains at just the right distance from the coil, making it appear as if the Servo-Skull is floating by itself.
To make the Servo-Skull talk, it was equipped with a speaker. With a text-to-speech program and a microphone, one can also give it specific instructions, just like a personal assistant. An LLM (Large Language Model) like ChatGPT is not used here: In the Imperium of Man from Warhammer 40,000, AI is strictly prohibited.

What is a Servo-Skull anyway? Like almost everything in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, their story is really dark: Servo-Skulls are drone-like devices made from human skulls. In life, these mostly belonged to pious servants of the Imperium. As Servo-Skulls, they may still serve the God-Emperor even after their death.
The skulls are created by Tech-Priests and powered by a machine spirit. The Imperium uses Servo-Skulls for many different purposes: as messengers, scouts, or bodyguards. Some even serve simply as floating candle holders.
Servo-Skulls are also found in the first Dawn of War. There you can use them as mobile scouts or add them to a squad to increase its line of sight.
