In Star Wars, there are countless Jedi who experience their stories away from the main narrative. Among them is Quinlan Vos, who has a turbulent history with the dark side of the Force.
Who is Quinlan Vos? Anyone who only engages with the films of Star Wars may have never heard of him. Quinlan Vos is actually based on a character that can be seen in the background of Episode 1 when young Anakin is exploring Mos Espa.
Afterward, he made several appearances in Legends works. His first official appearance in the modern continuity was in Season 3 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
He is a Kiffar and a Jedi Master who does not always adhere strictly to the rules of the Order. Along with his ability in psychometry, he was thus perfectly suited for secret and dangerous missions. Through psychometry, he can view memories from objects using the Force.
His most unusual characteristic is probably his relationship with the popular Sith assassin Asajj Ventress.
Quinlan Vos and His Relationship with the Sith
As a rebellious Jedi, there is a certain tendency towards the dark side of the Force. Vos often undertook secret missions where he operated covertly and did not directly represent the Jedi Order. His greatest mission was probably the Order’s assignment to kill Count Dooku.
For this, he was to ally with Asajj Ventress, who was once the apprentice and assassin of Dooku. Due to Darth Sidious, the Emperor, Vos betrayed Ventress, which left her with a score to settle with him. Vos was only supposed to ensure that she did not know he was a Jedi. He was to simply act as a bounty hunter.
After several weeks and a failed mission, Vos revealed to her that he was a Jedi and that his mission was to eliminate Dooku. She allied with him, but made it clear that it would be impossible without the dark side of the Force. She took him on as her apprentice and trained with him on Dathomir. During this, they fell in love.
The first attempt to kill Dooku occurred. Their assassination attempt failed, and they could not defeat him. Dooku even sowed discord between the two of them. Ventress was able to flee, but Vos was captured and tortured.
He was manipulated by Dooku and fell to the dark side of the Force after Dooku told him that Ventress had killed his former master. Although Ventress rescued him along with the Jedi Order, his loyalty still lay with Dooku, which is why the Order tasked him again with the mission to kill Dooku. Vos wanted to take the opportunity to eliminate Sidious as well, but that went wrong.
One of the Most Important Jedi After Order 66
What happened during the next encounter with Dooku? In another attempt to kill Dooku and even confront Sidious, there was an attack by the Republic, resulting in chaos. Ventress was also present, and Dooku saw the opportunity to kill both.
When Dooku was about to finish Vos off with Force lightning, Ventress jumped in between. She saved Vos but died in the process. Dooku escaped, and Vos was captured by the Jedi because he succumbed to the dark side. Thanks to Obi-Wan, he was given another chance, and together they buried Ventress on Dathomir.
Later, Ventress was revived, but only under the condition that she would never return to her bond with Vos.
What happened to Quinlan Vos after the failed assassination attempt? Vos returned to the light side of the Force and became a general of the Republic. He managed to survive Order 66 and founded the Hidden Path. These are underground systems and hideouts designed to help Jedi, Force-sensitive individuals, and other refugees of the Empire. This is revealed in the series Obi-Wan Kenobi.
How can one experience the story of Quinlan Vos? If you have a Kindle, you can get the comic Star Wars Omnibus Quinlan Vos in English, which summarizes most of his story. It is based on parts of the Star Wars: Republic
series, which was released in the late 90s.
In Star Wars – Apprentice of the Dark Side, you can experience the story of Vos and Ventress as a novel. The novel is still readily available on platforms like Amazon. If you prefer to watch something about it, check out the series Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld on Disney Plus. There you will see what happened to Ventress after her supposed death.
