Witchfire
Platforms: Steam | Mode: Singleplayer | Perspective: First-Person
What kind of game is this? In Witchfire, you are a witch hunter who engages in battle against a powerful witch and her henchmen with ancient firearms and various spells. However, the game has a unique twist on its extraction gameplay:
The shooter employs a progression system inspired by the Soulslike genre, because while battling the witch’s followers, you gather what’s called Witchfire. This works somewhat like souls in Dark Souls or runes in Elden Ring, and is used for permanent upgrades, such as increasing your character’s stats. However, each level-up also raises the costs for the next level.
But since Witchfire cannot be stored or spent during an ongoing raid, you have no choice but to plunge into battle with substantial amounts of this resource. And if you die and fail to retrieve your remains in the next attempt, all the collected Witchfire is lost.
Everything, not just what you gathered in the ongoing raid. Everything.
If you want to know more about Witchfire, I recently presented the shooter in more detail on MeinMMO, because the game gave me the impression that it could appeal to many ARC Raiders fans.
