Wargaming, the developer and publisher of World of Tanks and World of Warships, has announced that it will leave Russia and Belarus. The reason is “a strategic review of global business operations.”
In a new statement, Wargaming mentions that as of March 31, 2022, the management for the live service in Russia and Belarus has already been transferred to Lesta Studio. The publisher will no longer be responsible for its games in these two countries.
The goal is “to have no businesses in Russia or Belarus anymore.”
During the transition period, the products will still be available through the new owner. However, Lesta Studio has no connection to Wargaming. Therefore, no profits will flow from Lesta Studio to Wargaming.
It is therefore expected that there will be “significant revenue losses.” Additionally, the studio in Minsk is currently being dissolved. Affected employees are promised “the highest level of support” from Wargaming.
MeinMMO has contacted Wargaming. However, at this time, the studio is not providing any further statements.
Wargaming was originally founded in Belarus’ Minsk. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there have been conflicts surrounding the studio and its games. A creative director supported the war and was subsequently fired.
