In PUBG (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) players are currently finding golden crates that remind them of Fortnite. Are the developers giving a nod to their biggest competitor?
The testing phase for the new PUBG map “Sanhok” is currently underway and players have already made surprising discoveries. One mystery revolves around the golden crates that can be found in various locations on the map. No one really knows what purpose they serve.
A nod to Fortnite’s golden chests?
On Reddit, many PUBG players share their findings of the golden crates. They are confused because apparently nothing can be done with the crates. So far, no one has figured out how or if they can interact with them.
Where are the golden crates in PUBG? The crates can be found at a rock formation near Bootcamp Alpha and in the forest northeast of the ruins.

What does this have to do with Fortnite? In Fortnite, players find luminous chests scattered throughout the map. Players can open these in matches to receive loot like weapons or potions. In addition, the Fortnite developers at Epic place mysterious objects on the map to announce new in-game events.

Sanhok is the new map of PUBG, which has already been compared to Fortnite due to other features. Instead of the usual size of PUBG maps at 8×8 kilometers, it is only 4×4 kilometers. This leads to more action and faster matches, similar to Fortnite.
Is there an explanation from PUBG? The developers of PUBG have not yet commented on this issue. Whether it is really an Easter egg related to Fortnite or if the crates have a completely different significance for the shooter remains to be seen.
