PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is extremely successful, especially in Asia recently. However, this has led to massive server problems and great player dissatisfaction. The developers now want to find a solution quickly.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds keeps making headlines. After already breaking the mark of one million concurrent players, there were already 1.7 million players who wanted to enjoy Battle Royale fun worldwide at the same time in early October 2017.
Unfortunately, there were many problems, especially in China. Players suddenly could not access the servers and were supposed to set up a VPN network to Europe through a paid tool instead. A shitstorm with thousands of negative Steam reviews from China was the result!
PUBG developer Bluehole explains errors
The reason for the problems with the servers, according to Bluehole, lies simply in the unexpectedly strong growth of the game. Since the existing infrastructure, a cloud service designed for nearly 1 million players, could no longer handle the many gamers, another cloud service was quickly added.
This new cloud was supposed to share the load with the old servers, but the system had not been tested adequately beforehand. As a result, some servers were overloaded, leading to the known issues and in turn the Steam shitstorm.
Bluehole is working hard on a solution for server problems
The developers at Bluehole want to fix the problem soon and are reportedly working hard and doubling their efforts on a solution. Furthermore, the company is expanding, among other things, through the establishment of the subsidiary “PUBG-Corp”, which will take care of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds in Europe, the USA, and Asia.
Meanwhile, they are apologizing to the annoyed players and promise to find a solution for the server problems soon.
