The PS5 Pro has been officially presented, but the price has caused much discussion. Is it worth buying the PS5 Pro at a cost of 800 euros?
The PS5 Pro has been officially announced and has mentioned the price and release of the PS5 Pro. However, especially the high price of 800 euros makes many players angry. Because many say, “with that money, you could just buy a gaming PC!”
On one hand, we will look at how much hardware you really get for 800 to 900 euros. On the other hand, we will explain to you who might benefit the most from which purchase and how much “gaming PC” is really worth for you in the end.
PS5 Pro or Gaming PC for 800 Euros – What you get
How much does the PS5 cost? Sony has announced the official price and release date for the PS5 Pro:
- The PS5 Pro will cost 799 euros in Germany.
- For a drive, you will pay an additional 119.99 euros, and for a stand, about 30 euros. A second DualSense controller will cost around 60 euros.
- For the complete package, you will therefore pay around 950 euros. A subscription for PS Plus is not included if you want to play online.
What gaming PC can you get for 800 to 900 euros? To find out, we compared the prices of pre-built PCs in several shops. We are always assuming about 900 euros:
- At CSL, you can already get a fast mid-range PC with an i5-14400F and an RTX 4060 Ti. This is sufficient for Full HD and also for WQHD with some compromises in frame rates.
- At Dubaro, you get a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RX 6750 XT. With this, you can play with high frame rates in WQHD and even use 4K with some compromises.
- At Megaport, you get a Ryzen 5 5600 and an RTX 4060. The RTX 4060 is Nvidia’s entry-level GPU for Full HD.
Depending on the offer, you can either get a very good entry-level gaming PC (RTX 4060) or already a mid-range gaming PC (RX 6750 XT). Generally, you need to upgrade your graphics card every 3 to 5 years if you want to play top titles.
If you are willing to pay an additional 200 euros for your gaming PC, you can already get a machine in the lower high-end range. For instance, a graphics card like the RTX 4070 or an RX 7900 GRE / XT. With that, you should be set for the next few years before you need to upgrade again.
PS5 Pro, Gaming PC, or the old PS5?
Basically, it depends on what you really need and what you should ultimately buy:
Reasons to choose the PS5:
- If you only want to play current titles and are satisfied with 30 FPS or sometimes 60 FPS, then the normal PS5 or PS5 Slim is completely sufficient. Because its performance is still enough for all titles that are released for the PS5.
- If you want to “only” play, do not want to worry about settings, and do not plan to upgrade in the next four or five years, then the normal PS5 is still the best choice.
- If you need a drive in the PS5 because you buy movies and series through your console, then the extra cost for the PS5 Pro might be too expensive for you. After all, you will have to purchase a drive additionally.
- If you are looking for a straightforward and accessible gaming experience, then the PS5 is still a very good console.
Reasons to choose the PS5 Pro:
- If you are already equipped with a 4K or 8K setup and want to get the most out of your setup and your PS5, then you might consider upgrading to the PS5 Pro.
- If money is no object for you and the PS5 is your main platform, then the PS5 Pro is also the best way for you.
- If stable 60 FPS are an absolute must for you and you do not want to game with less.
Reasons to choose a gaming PC:
- A gaming PC is the better choice if you want to be more flexible and do not just want to game but also want to browse the internet or do office tasks.
- The gaming PC is also a good option if you plan to upgrade your CPU or graphics card later. Usually, you can have upgrades done by a shop.
- For 900 euros, you get more value in the PC area than with the PS5 Pro, but you will need to invest your own time in the installation of games and software.
- If you pay an additional 200 euros, you can already get a high-end gaming PC with RTX 4070 or RX 7900 GRE /XT and be prepared for 4K gaming.
