The British studio Mediatonic wants to develop a new Battle Royale Game called “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” for the PlayStation 4. However, it is intended to be completely without violence and weapons and instead come across as a kind of crazy gameshow à la Takeshi’s Castle full of fun mini-games.
What is the new Battle Royale game? The game from Mediatonic is called Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. In it, 100 cute little characters reminiscent of Teletubbies compete to win a golden crown. Only one of the little guys, called Fall Guys, can have it at the end.
Funny gameshow instead of bloody slaughter
How does Battle Royale work without violence? Instead of killing each other with all kinds of weapons, as is customary for a proper BR game like Fortnite or Apex Legends, the Fall Guys must survive a series of crazy mini-games. Those who fail at one of the many fun disciplines are eliminated and out of the race for the crown.
Among other things, the developers plan the following tasks on the way to victory:
- Crossing a field where a giant cleaning brush, like from a car wash, drives around and sweeps Fall Guys off the field.
- Passing through a wall with various openings, but only one is actually passable.
- Stealing eggs from a huge sumo chicken and avoiding the revenge of the feathered creature.
- Overcoming dangerous obstacle courses.
- Skateboarding and ramming opponents’ boards full of Fall Guys.
How do you win a round in Fall Guys? The developers plan about 30 different disciplines, of which 4 or 5 are randomly selected per round. In the end, the goal is to climb a mountain where the crown awaits the winner who reaches it first.
What does the progression look like? As is common in a BR game, the developers want to continuously develop the game and provide more crazy challenges. Additionally, players will be able to buy cosmetic items for their Fall Guy, allowing them to customize the cute little character individually.
Why are the developers doing this? According to the developers, they wanted to make a Battle Royale game but also appeal to people who either don’t like violence or who are so good at shooters that they want to try something new.
In addition, the developers are huge fans of crazy Japanese game shows like the infamous Takeshi’s Castle. This was one of the great inspirations for Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.
When is the game coming out? Fall Guys is set to release in 2020. The first platforms planned are PS4 and PC. However, there may be more platforms added later.
