Even though it is freezing outside, the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is already preparing for spring with this year’s seasonal event “Princess Festival”.
The “Princess Festival” event starts on March 1st in Final Fantasy XIV. It ends two weeks later on March 14th.
The event is inspired by the traditional Japanese festival “Hina Matsuri”, also known as “Doll Festival”, which is celebrated every year on March 3rd.

The idol group “Sing Drosseln” will once again perform in Ul’dah with a new concert to celebrate the Princess Festival. This time, the three girls have something special planned.
They want to encourage players to participate in their concert by waving special colored glow sticks. Accordingly, new special emotes will be available in the game for this purpose, which will be rewarded upon completing the event. Glow sticks play an important role in all emotes.
Additionally, there will be a new piece of furniture and a sheet music roll for the orchestrion.
Why are glow sticks part of J-Pop culture?
The concert culture in Japan differs from that in the USA and Europe. In Japan, glow sticks are a part of the audience at every J-Pop concert.
To show their support for the band, Japanese fans use special glow sticks that they wave in accordance with the music. This is an integral part of Japanese live performances. It is called “Wotagei” or simply “Wota” and can look something like this:
Bands and idols all have their own assigned “signature color.” So, if you prefer a certain singer, you choose a glow stick with the corresponding color.
A dark concert hall is considered a bad sign and is referred to as a “Black Ocean.”
With this year’s Princess Festival, Square Enix brings this colorful part of Japanese culture to Final Fantasy XIV in a fun event.
