Initially, the Early Access of Pax Dei was supposed to last about a year, until June 2025 – maybe a few months longer. However, this plan now seems to be falling apart.
What is happening with the Pax Dei team right now? A message from the studio heads went live a few hours ago in the official Discord channel of the MMORPG, stating that restructuring needs to take place. Specifically, 17 out of the 60 employees will lose their jobs.
They thanked those affected for their important, passionate work on Pax Dei and promised the best possible support. At the same time, they emphasized that they would continue to work towards achieving the goals set for the online role-playing game. However, due to the layoffs, they will now need a bit more time for this.

Release still planned for 2025
What does this mean for the release? According to the announcement, the next patch, Verse #3, will appear a few weeks later than planned, but you can still expect the promised innovations during the spring. The update includes, among other things, noticeable improvements to the combat system and group control, the new healing staff, and 15 fresh spells.
A final release in the summer seems hardly achievable with the smaller team, yet the launch is still set for 2025.
How is Pax Dei doing? At the beginning of November, the largest update so far, Proving Grounds, was released for the Early Access version of Pax Dei, which included a partial reset of the progress achieved so far. There were extensive adjustments to the terrain, biomes, crafting, building structures, combat, PvE challenges, UI, camera, and much more.
All of this was desperately needed, as the beautiful MMORPG had been lacking many important features for a functioning social sandbox experience in the first months. The progress wipe also cleared away the somewhat depressing graveyard of unfinished projects.
