Taking old Pokémon to the new console isn’t easy. A fan project aims to help.
Many of us still remember our very first Pokémon editions, which we might have played with the Gameboy. The first fully developed Charizard, a caught Mewtwo, a Machop with a funny nickname – such memories are shared by many who played the early Pokémon games.
For a long time, you could simply transfer these Pokémon to the next version via link cable. But when Pokémon Sword and Shield were released, the so-called “Dexit” occurred – the national Pokédex was removed, and suddenly not all Pokémon could be transferred anymore, only some.
If you want to bring old Pokémon to the new console today, it takes several steps and even more hardware. A group of fans now aims to tackle this issue during the upcoming Pokémon World Championship.
Fans launch “Pokémon Rescue Team” to “rescue” monsters
On the social media platform “X”, user “Professor Rex” shared the plan he and other fans had. They want to revive the so-called “Pokémon Rescue Team” in 2025, which once existed from an official source.
The idea: They have the necessary hardware to transfer Pokémon from games, back to the Gameboy Advance, to today’s games. They also shared the corresponding case, which shows various devices, such as a Gameboy Advance, a DS, a 3DS, and a Switch.
The link to Professor Rex’s post on X can be found here.
This is how the Pokémon will be transferred from game to game until they can be loaded to Pokémon Home and from there into the current editions. They also distribute old event Pokémon that could previously be obtained.
This project is currently set to be implemented at the Pokémon World Championships taking place this weekend in Anaheim.
What is the feedback? In the comments, players express excitement about the idea. However, in another post by Professor Rex, it was briefly mentioned that Play!Pokémon had apparently contacted the organizers of the initiative and the idea was temporarily put on hold. This is a fan initiative, not an official action.
But good news: Apparently, as Professor Rex states, everything is now cleared up and the project can proceed as planned.
What is the Pokémon World Championship? At the Pokémon World Championship in Anaheim, the best players compete in various Pokémon games. These include, for example, Scarlet and Violet, as well as the trading card game and Pokémon GO. It’s a huge event that attracts thousands of trainers from around the world. Pokémon GO is already themed around the World Championship: There is currently a new promo code for the Pokémon World Championship.
