The trading in Pokémon TCG Pocket is finally available. MeinMMO tells you what you need to know about the currencies and rules.
Why should you trade? With trading, collectors can complete their collection of cards by giving away cards they have duplicates of. For example, you can get cards that you need for your deck and for which you have not yet gathered the required number of Pack Points.
When can you trade? The trading feature has been available since January 29, 2025.

What are the rules? The trading feature is now available in Pokémon TCG Pocket. The following rules apply to the cards you want to trade:
- The trade can only happen between friends. If you have a list with only a few friends, your trading options are severely limited.
- Trades can only occur between cards of the same rarity. This means that, for example, 1-star cards can only be traded for 1-star cards.
- If your card has flair, it can only be traded for another card with flair. The original cost of the flair does not matter.
- The cards retain the language they had before the trade after trading.
- At the release of the trading feature, only cards from Unbeatable Genes and Mysterious Island will be tradable. Thus, promo cards should be excluded.
- Only cards with a rarity of 1-4 ♢ and 1 ☆ can be traded. All 2 ☆ stars and the currently highest 🜲 rarity level are excluded from trading.
- You need trading tokens and trading endurance to trade.
These currencies are needed for trading
What do you need to trade? In order to perform a trade, you need trading endurance and trading tokens. The required number of trading tokens increases with the rarity level of the cards you want to trade.
You need the following number of trading tokens for the following rarities:
- ♢ – 0 trading tokens
- ♢♢ – 0 trading tokens
- ♢♢♢ – 120 trading tokens
- ♢♢♢♢ – 500 trading tokens
- ☆ – 400 trading tokens
To obtain trading tokens, you must participate in events or exchange Pokémon cards that you have duplicates of for tokens. You can do this through the menu My Cards
. Click on the card you have duplicates of, go to Receive Items
and select the tokens. Note that you can only exchange duplicate cards starting from a rarity of ♢♢♢ for trading tokens.
You receive the following number of trading tokens per exchanged card:
- ♢♢♢ – 25 trading tokens
- ♢♢♢♢ – 125 trading tokens
- ☆ – 100 trading tokens
The trading endurance, as you may know from Wonder Trade endurance, has a maximum of 5 and fills up over time. You need one endurance per trade.
Additionally, with the release of the trading feature, a new type of hourglass was introduced: the trading hourglass. These are also used, similar to Wonder Trade, to restore trading endurance.
Trading feature restricts many collectors
What is the problem? With the strict rules, it is impossible for many players to obtain all cards and complete their collection. The cards with the highest rarity that cannot be traded have the lowest chance of being drawn from a pack. Consequently, not all collectors may have the coveted cards yet.
Furthermore, promo cards cannot be traded. These are special cards distributed through events or the premium pass. They have no rarity level and cannot be drawn from boosters.
Those who do not want to invest money in Pokémon TCG Pocket, started playing later, or missed an event cannot collect all cards.
This becomes especially problematic when you already have duplicate cards but cannot trade them for gaps in your own collection.
The Pokémon Company has made it clear that the feature is intended to be expanded over time. Perhaps rarer cards will be allowed for trade after a few weeks. However, this remains to be seen.
The required trading tokens are also perceived as too expensive. The cards that can be traded must now be exchanged for tokens and only provide a fraction of the required costs.
