Niantic has officially confirmed the date for the Zapdos Day in Pokémon GO. You have the chance to catch the legendary bird in raids, just like its shiny variant.
What is the Zapdos Day? On Zapdos Day, you can encounter the legendary Pokémon exclusively in raids for three hours. During this time, Zapdos will be the only raid boss you encounter in gyms.
When is the Zapdos Day? Zapdos Day will take place on July 21. That is a weekend after the big GO Fest, which is this weekend from July 14 to 15. Trainers completed the special research at the GO Fest, which is why Zapdos was unlocked as a reward.

Zapdos Day brings bonuses, shiny and special move
These bonuses are unlocked on Zapdos Day:
- Chance for Shiny: You will encounter and be able to catch Zapdos as shiny
- Thunder Shock: This Zapdos will have Thunder Shock as a quick move, instead of Charge Beam. Thunder Shock is a stronger attack than Charge Beam, has more attack power, and is faster.
- Free Raid Passes: If all goals are achieved, you will receive five free raid passes. To do this, you must spin the photo disk on Zapdos Day with the legendary Pokémon.
