Niantic informed Pokémon GO players that special times are ahead. Pokémon from the tropical Alola region are returning to Pokémon GO.
What are Alolan Forms?
Alolan forms first appeared in Generation 7, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. According to the story in the game, these are regional forms. The Pokémon adapted to the climate of the regions and changed accordingly.
What changes occur with Alolan Forms? The changes are visually noticeable. For example, a Exeggutor has a long neck and thus looks like a palm tree. Sometimes the types also change. Exeggutor is originally a Grass and Psychic type, while Alolan Exeggutor is a Grass and Dragon type.
Attacks and stats also change: Alolan forms can learn different moves than Pokémon species without Alolan forms. The stats can also change. It is believed that the maximum CP of Alolan forms differs from that of non-Alolan forms.

Alola PokéDex – New Entry?
Many Pokémon GO trainers are now wondering if the new Alolan forms mean a new entry in the PokéDex. Exact information from Niantic on this topic is still missing. However, the community assumes that Alolan forms will behave similarly to the forms of Castform.
You can catch a Castform in the four shown forms, depending on the weather. However, there are not four PokéDex entries, but one. To access the different forms, there are buttons in the PokéDex of Pokémon GO.
Here you just select the corresponding form, and the display image changes accordingly. The community assumes that the PokéDex selection for Alolan forms will work similarly.
