The Unova Stone has become an important item in Pokémon GO, as it allows you to evolve powerful Pokémon. But where is it most worth using this evolution item?
What is the Unova Stone? This evolution item was introduced with the release of Generation 5 in Pokémon GO. Currently, you can only evolve 4 Pokémon with it, but the pool of Pokémon will expand.
We will show you which Pokémon are worth evolving and for which you should perhaps save an Unova Stone.
These Pokémon should be evolved first
How to obtain the Unova Stone? So far, the only way has been through research breakthroughs. Additionally, you could earn a stone in the live event “A Colossal Discovery“. With the introduction of the Rocket Leaders, you can also get such a stone from battling the villains with a bit of luck.
These Pokémon can currently be evolved: At the moment, you can evolve four Pokémon with it. However, two of them cannot be caught here in Germany, as they belong to the regional monsters in Pokémon GO. These monsters are currently available for evolution with the Unova Stone:
- Skelabra
- Grillchita
- Vegichita (regional Pokémon – not from Germany)
- Sodachita (regional Pokémon – not from Germany)
Which Pokémon should be evolved first? Here in Germany, you probably first have the choice between Grillchita and Skelabra. Your choice should definitely be Skelabra.
Developing Lichtel is one of the best Ghost-types and one of the best Fire-type attackers. If you have enough candies, you should definitely evolve 10 Skelabra instead of one Grillchita.
Grillchita is not useful in the meta at all. Weak attacks and a low attack stat speak for themselves.
These 3 evolutions will be coming soon
Data miners have already found hints in the game files about 3 more Pokémon that can be evolved with the Unova Stone. They will likely be included in one of the next updates from Gen 5. This includes:
- Zapplarang
- Chillabell
- Somnivora
Should you save an Unova Stone here? For what you should definitely keep an Unova Stone in reserve, it is Somnivora. This Pokémon is a good alternative to Heiteira as a defender, even if it cannot surpass it. As a Psychic-type Pokémon, it is effective against the classic Fighting-type attackers.
The other two monsters will not play a significant role. Zapplarang faces too much competition among Electric-type attackers, and Chillabell is Normal-type, therefore does not benefit from any attack bonuses.
How should you proceed with the Unova Stone? Unlike with the Sinnoh Stone, where many evolutions are worthwhile, the Unova Stone has very few good evolutions. So, it’s not so bad if you currently only have a few of them.
First, you should evolve several Skelabra and only then focus on the Dex entries.
