The new Pokémon GO update 0.85.1 for Android and 1.55.1 for iOS brings new content to the game!
A new update 0.85.1 is now available for Android and iOS devices. The developers stated the day before that exciting things will happen in Pokémon GO. This includes monsters from Generation 3 and new weather conditions that will affect the game.
The experts from TheSilphRoad discovered through data mining what changes in the game come with the update.
Update 0.85.2
Meanwhile, the update with the version number 0.85.2 has been deployed. According to data miners, there are only minor bug fixes here and no significant changes.
New Item: Star Piece
A new item appeared in the game code called “Star Piece” in English. Currently, experts assume that a Star Piece for stardust is what a lucky egg is for experience points: a booster. It is possible that with the Star Piece, the amount of stardust gained can be increased for a certain period.
Additionally, two extra packages of star pieces in sizes 8 and 25 were found in the code. These are likely the shop packages. We are already excited to see when we can buy and use the pieces.
Battle Parties are here!
The idea of battle parties had already been found in the code of Pokémon GO a few months ago. With the new update 0.85.1, the battle parties have been activated.
According to initial reports, you can assemble and name your groups before a gym battle.
New Battle Summary
If you have installed the new patch 0.85.1 and are battling with it, the new interface now shows you interesting data about the battles. It involves how effective the attacks are that you made against the defender or boss.
Weather Conditions
The new weather conditions affect spawn behavior, strength, and the amount of stardust gained. The following weather types were found in the APK:
- Clear
- Partly Cloudy
- Rain
- Windy
- Snow
- Fog
It seems there are four different levels of each weather type (Rain 1 to 4, for example). Clear weather is excluded. It only exists in one level.
Whether these gradations only have a visual effect (Level 1 Rain as light drizzle, Level 4 as downpour or thunderstorm?) or whether the mentioned bonuses with stardust, spawns, and strength will be further increased, will soon be revealed.
Additionally, there are various warnings for certain weather conditions.
10 New Attacks – With Delibird/Botogel Ability
These ten new attacks are now part of the APK. This includes the gift ability, which is the trademark of Botogel!

Whether these new attacks will only activate for Generation 3 or if a reworking of the existing Pokémon attacks is upcoming remains to be seen.
Other Changes and Funny Placeholders
A new cache feature for the journal has been added to the game. This means that either we will soon see a longer journal or the loading times for it will be reduced.
Additionally, Niantic has integrated debugging tools for the new weather. Also included are “interesting” placeholder images. What could Niantic be trying to tell us?
In conclusion, this is one of the biggest and most exciting updates in Pokémon GO. We are already looking forward to the new weather conditions and can hardly wait for Niantic to release them. Hopefully, we will receive a nice gift from Botogel for Christmas.
