Several trainers are reporting problems in the current event in Pokémon GO on social media. Niantic has already commented on this.
What kind of event is this? Currently, the 9th Anniversary Party is taking place in Pokémon GO to celebrate the game’s 9th birthday. The event started on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM and runs until Sunday, July 6, 2025, at 8:00 PM.
In the event, among other things, golden PokéStops are waiting for you, where you can earn coins for Gierspenst. Trainers are reporting problems with this, and there are already indications from Niantic regarding the issue.
From Gold to Blue
What is the problem? As several trainers report on Reddit, they approached golden PokéStops. However, once they reached such a stop and wanted to spin it, the color changed, and it turned out to be a regular blue PokéStop instead of a golden one.
The post creator also suspects that because of this, they are not receiving the rewards in the form of coins for Gierspenst that can be earned at the golden PokéStops with some luck.
In the comments, more trainers are also reporting that they are experiencing the phenomenon as well. Some already thought that the golden PokéStop simply disappeared at the moment they touched it and turned back into a regular blue PokéStop.
What does Niantic say about this? Niantic, the developer of Pokémon GO, is already aware of the problem. They have published a small article in their help center specifically addressing this issue. It states:
“Golden PokéStops turn blue before they spin. When you approach a golden PokéStop, it may turn blue before it spins. This is a visual bug and does not affect your ability to collect Gierspenst coins.”
This means you can confidently go after the golden PokéStops. Even if they turn blue again, you still have the chance to receive the coveted coins for Gierspenst. It is unknown when the visual bug will be fixed by Niantic.
