Actually, many Poké Balls should be coming from gifts in Pokémon GO right now. However, trainers have noticed that the amount has decreased. Niantic has now commented on this.
Update from July 31: Trainers report that since the evening of July 30, the amount of Poké Balls from gifts has increased again. There has been no feedback from Niantic regarding this. You should now notice the changes in your gifts. (via reddit)
What is it about? In Pokémon GO, Poké Balls are an important resource for trainers to catch Pokémon from the wild. The balls are obtained by spinning photo discs at gyms or PokéStops. In March, Niantic ensured that more Poké Balls come from friends’ gifts than usual.
This change took place against the backdrop of the coronavirus. As trainers could no longer play actively outside, but caught Pokémon from home, it was designed to ensure a steady supply of Poké Balls.
Now, shortly after the GO Fest 2020, there seems to have been a change. Trainers are complaining about receiving fewer balls again. Niantic, on the other hand, claims that there has been no change.
Trainers complain about fewer Poké Balls
This is what trainers are saying: On reddit, comments about missing or fewer balls from gifts are piling up.
- Trainer MarsNeedsFreedomToo wrote on July 26 on reddit “Have the Poké Balls from gifts been nerfed?”
- Trainer infiniteshadow asked the same question on July 29 on reddit and posted a snippet of a gift loot – You can see a 7 km egg and 2 Poké Balls.
Others write in the comments: “Terrible to reverse this. Especially for those who do not have stops nearby and rely on balls from gifts.”
“I’ve noticed this too. What a bad time to nerf. Now that some of us could use a few Poké Balls after GO Fest. Where I previously got 100, I now get about 40.”
Niantic responds to the ball issue
This is what the developers say: On Twitter, user @Greenslash29 asked Niantic whether gifts were nerfed. He received only 15 balls from 20 gifts.
Niantic says that the distribution of Poké Balls from gifts is random. “We have not made any changes. Continue opening gifts to increase your chances.”
This is how the community reacts: Players believe that there has been a change in the distribution of Poké Balls from friends’ gifts.
On Twitter, @ThatHollowGuy writes: “This is 100 % wrong. When people previously received Poké Balls, they were 5, 10, or 15 at once. Now people are getting 1, 2, or 3. They HAVE been changed.”
Some believe that they may not have conducted the changes “Intentionally”. “If they forgot to extend the package bonus for Poké Balls, then technically they have made no change, and the bonus simply ended,” explains Torek_Drc.
We are curious to see if there will be an adjustment in the coming days and if more balls from gifts will appear again.
Many balls are important in the coming weeks because since you did so well at GO Fest, there will be 3 weeks of action. And special Pokémon will also spawn in the wild.
