Trainers in Pokémon GO make the exciting discovery that Ditto can now also hide behind the fighting Pokémon Mankey. Is this intentional?
There is video evidence that the fighting Pokémon Mankey can transform into a Ditto after being caught. This is surprising news, as this transformation is new and has now been proven for the first time. The community is now wondering whether Niantic actually planned this or if a bug has occurred due to recent events.
Mankey becomes Ditto – The video evidence
In the TheSilphRoad community on Reddit, trainer CaioSaud shared his special Mankey catch. As you can see in the video, he first catches a Mankey, which then transforms into a Ditto after an “oh”.
Another piece of evidence that Mankey can transform into a Ditto can be found here on Twitter:
What is so special about it? Until now, we assumed that Ditto cannot disguise itself as Mankey.
What else does Ditto disguise itself as? We have written an article for you that shows all species Ditto can be hiding behind.
Bug or feature? The community is uncertain
This special Ditto transformation comes as a surprise to many trainers. There are few explanations for this:
- Niantic has suddenly activated new species for the Ditto transformation
- A bug is causing Mankey to transform into Ditto
Both are possible, yet trainers suspect a bug. This is because the fighting event is currently active, causing more fighting-type monsters to spawn in the wild. In this context, a bug could occur that leads to the new transformation.
It is also possible that Niantic wants to make the Ditto quest easier for research purposes and thus activated this change.
What does this mean for you? If you are looking for a Ditto, you should also keep an eye on Mankey and catch it. It is currently unclear how long this change will remain in the game. Everyone is now excited to see what happens after the end of the fighting event and whether Mankey will still be able to transform into Ditto.
