In Pokémon GO the trading costs are reduced for about two weeks. You can find out what else the trading event brings here.
Spontaneous announcement: On Thursday evening, the Pokémon GO team announced that an event is now active. In this special trading event, you should take advantage of the new feature.
The bonuses: The stardust costs are reduced and you receive more candies when trading. Additionally, new Pokémon registered in the PokéDex grant more XP.
Trading Event – How long will it last?
Start and end: The trading event started on August 2, 2018, at 10:00 PM German time. According to Niantic, it will remain active until August 19, 2018, at 6:00 AM.
The bonuses: During the event, there are in-game advantages in three categories:
- Less dust: 25% less stardust cost for every regular and special trade
- More candies: In the announcement, Niantic states that you can earn “up to six candies” with each trade. It seems to be three additional candies for each trade
- Triple XP: Registering new Pokémon in the PokéDex gives you triple the amount of experience points
Why this event? Niantic presumably wants to capitalize on the popularity of the trading feature. The function was introduced in the game only recently and is now expected to be heavily utilized due to the new bonuses.

Chance of Lucky Pokémon
Lucky Pokémon: Keep in mind, when trading you have the chance to receive Lucky Pokémon. These are new in Pokémon GO and are directly related to the trading system. Whether the chance of Lucky Pokémon is increased during the event is unclear.
What do we know about Lucky Pokémon?
- Lucky Pokémon require less stardust for power-ups
- They have minimum values of 10, 10, 10 – Don’t worry, your lucky Pokémon have good IV values
- The longer a Pokémon has been in a trainer’s possession, the higher the chance that it will become “lucky” after the trade
And what about Gen 4? After an alleged leak, the trainer community is waiting for news about the fourth generation. However, Niantic probably still has nothing definitive to say about that.
