The Trainer battles in Pokémon GO are here and the first players are reporting several bugs in the new PvP battle. Developer Niantic has already commented on this.
The Trainer battles in Pokémon GO thrilled thousands of trainers on the first day.
Many players complained about bugs in PvP:
- One can either deal no damage at all or cannot use the charge attack, causing one to lose the battle.
- Players also have difficulties accepting battle invitations.
Niantic has already spoken out about the incident. We show you the statements from Niantic and address the errors in PvP.
These bugs in PvP annoy players
The PvP mode is just a day old, but it also comes with various bugs. Many players can hardly or not at all fight. Niantic has commented on one error.
Pokémon deal no damage
Some players complain that their Pokémon do not deal damage in battles. Although one sees the animation of the attack and the opponent deals damage, one does not cause any.
Here’s how you should fix the bug: On Twitter, Niantic support has spoken out and stated: “Trainers, we have received reports that Pokémon are unable to deal damage during Trainer battles, and we are working to resolve this issue. In the meantime, please ensure that your device’s time is set to automatic update, which should fix this issue. Thank you for your patience.”
Does this really work? Some trainers can deal damage in Trainer battles without problems thanks to the automatic time update. The tip from Niantic helped them.
Other players continue to complain that the tip did not help. They likely have to wait for Niantic to fix the bug on their own.
Faster phones have an advantage
In trainer battles, sometimes seconds matter. However, some players have discovered that iOS users might have an advantage. On Reddit, two players compared an iPhone and an Android device.
Iphone is 2x faster then Note9 for pvp in pokemon go. from r/TheSilphRoad
This advantage exists: It is clear that the iPhone is faster in battle and can deal damage faster. This gives that player an advantage throughout the entire battle.
Here’s how to possibly fix the error: To ensure fair conditions, players should be on the same network or Wi-Fi. However, in this video, the players were on the same network and yet the iPhone was faster. One can only hope that Niantic quickly fixes this error.
Players cannot accept battle invitations
Before one can fight against each other, one must be invited. If a trainer sends out an invitation, it often happens that the other trainer cannot accept the invitation. They press “Accept” but cannot join the battle.

This bug is annoying because: The player who sent the invitation is not aware of the error. They are already in the lobby waiting for their opponent. When fighting with a hyperfriend over distance, it is difficult to coordinate. The result is endless waiting in the lobby and resending invitations.
