In Pokémon GO the Snapshot Challenge begins. The best submissions win a special PokéStop in the game. Additionally, there is a trip to a GO Fest to be won.
What kind of competition is this? The developers of Pokémon GO have now announced the Snapshot Challenge. You need to take photos with the AR camera. The subject should feature Pokémon and “the real world”.
The competition is divided into three individual challenges that you can participate in.
The Snapshot Challenges in Pokémon GO
What must one do? You need to prove your skills as a photographer. There are various challenges and categories. They focus on “buddy Pokémon”, the “habitat of Pokémon”, and “creativity”.
Buddy Challenge
When does the event take place? From April 15 to April 24, 2019.
What should one do? You should take photos that highlight the connection between the trainer and their buddy Pokémon. You need to show that you are really true buddies.
Maybe you play together in the garden, go for a walk in the woods, or lie on the couch together watching TV. Be creative and come up with something unique that shows your friendship with your buddy Pokémon.
How to participate? Share your 3 best photos on Twitter with the hashtags #GOsnapshot and #BuddyChallenge.
Habitat Challenge
When does the event take place? From April 29 to May 8, 2019.
What should one do? Here you should take photos that show how Pokémon appear in their natural habitat. For example, a Magikarp in the water or a Butterfree over a flower field. Check the PokéDex entry of your Pokémon to find out where they usually hang out.
Then find a location that matches the PokéDex information and take photos of that Pokémon there.

Creative Challenge
When does the event take place? From May 13 to May 22, 2019.
What should one do? Here, your full creativity is required. Take AR photos of your Pokémon in any situation. Be inventive, try things that make your photo unique and creative.
It’s important that you stand out from the photos of other applicants and really show something special. This increases your chances of winning.
How to participate? Share your 3 best photos on Twitter with the hashtags #GOsnapshot and #GoCreateChallenge.
What prizes are there?
- The second and third place winners will win a special PokéStop with their best photo from the competition. The Stop will remain in the game for 3 months. It is still unclear whether you can choose the location of the Stop yourself.
- The winners of each challenge will also receive a special PokéStop. Additionally, they will win a trip to one of the GO Fests 2019 of their choice.
How to win? Niantic will select the winners, second and third place winners. Originality, creativity, and entertainment value of the snapshots will be evaluated. The participation terms can be found here on the Pokémon GO website.
