In Pokémon GO, players are waiting for a mysterious Ultra Bonus. Niantic will introduce this in a few days.
A great secret is waiting to be unveiled by the Pokémon GO developers. The Ultra Bonus has been a topic for the players for weeks. However, apart from the title, the Ultra Bonus, we know nothing about it.
On September 10, Niantic plans to present this. The community already has some ideas about it.
Why is there an Ultra Bonus?
Pokémon GO launched a summer tour in 2018:
- It started with the Safari Zone in Dortmund at the end of June
- Chicago was the next destination of the summer tour. There, in mid-July, the GO Fest took place
- The last stop of the tour is the Safari Zone in Japan. It is currently active
For each of these three events, Niantic set up global challenges. Trainers have to work together worldwide and pursue common goals. In doing so, players unlock bonuses in the game.
Legendary Days as a reward: For the successful completion of all tasks of an event, Niantic rewards the players with the Zapdos tag, the Articuno tag, and finally the Moltres tag in September.
The biggest reward follows: If all goals of the summer tour are achieved, Niantic will unlock the Ultra Bonus. This is basically the biggest success trainers can achieve during the summer tour 2018.
What the fresh Pokémon, new features, or rotations in the game will be is unclear. Because Niantic has not revealed anything about this special bonus. Only on September 10 will the developers provide more details.
We reached out to the community. What do trainers believe is behind this bonus?
Possibilities for the Ultra Bonus in Pokémon GO
There are some themes that keep coming up in the Pokémon GO community in connection with the Ultra Bonus. Initially, there was speculation about Celebi, but you can already unlock it with these quests.
So what theories remain?
Mewtwo Tag, Shiny, new EX Raid Boss
Background: It has been about a year since Mewtwo was released in Pokémon GO. On August 14, 2017, it first stormed the arenas in exclusive raids. For this one-year anniversary, trainers suspect that the Ultra Bonus is directly related to Mewtwo.
The wish: Trainers wish that Mewtwo appears worldwide in regular raids in which all trainers can participate. So far, Mewtwo is only available to trainers with exclusive invitations. There is also hope for a shiny variant of this special Pokémon.
Features like PvP or PokéStop submissions
Background: Niantic has already announced that they are working on incorporating direct battles between trainers. However, they have not yet revealed a specific release date.
The first wish: Many players would be pleased to have a PvP feature in Pokémon GO. This would allow them to duel directly with their friends and would provide a change from arena and raid battles.
Background for PokéStop submissions: Currently, submitting PokéStops is only possible through indirect means. Players must reach a certain level in Ingress, another game by Niantic, before they can submit portal proposals there, which can then end up as arenas or PokéStops in Pokémon GO. This is cumbersome and particularly time-consuming for players in rural areas who have few Stops or Arenas available.
The second wish: Players have long wished for the ability to photograph places near them for Pokémon GO and submit them to Niantic as Stops.
Players hope that with the Ultra Bonus, one of these features will be activated.
Rotation of regional Pokémon
Background: In Pokémon GO, there are monsters that appear only in specific locations around the world. A Tauros is typically found only in North America, a Tropius in Africa, and here in Europe, there’s Pantimos. The list goes on; here are the details for you:
The wish: While some regional Pokémon can make their way to Europe through events where they are not normally available, it still makes it challenging to fill the PokéDex when there are so many regional monsters. Trainers hope that with the Ultra Bonus, regional Pokémon will rotate and we can catch monsters in Europe that typically appear only in other parts of the world.
New monsters from Generation 4
Background: Pokémon GO is now over 2 years old and already includes monsters from the first, second, and third generations in the game. At some point, Generation 4 should follow.
The wish: With the Ultra Bonus, the developers could release the first wave of Gen 4 monsters in Pokémon GO. This would mark the start of the Sinnoh region Pokémon. There have already been early signs for Generation 4. Recently, however, Niantic removed important code for Gen 4.
Doubling all bonuses
Background: For the past events of the summer tour, there have already been XP and candy events. The Safari Zone in Japan will likely unlock many Stardust bonuses. Now the community believes that the Ultra Bonus is related to this.
The wish: Trainers hope that the Ultra Bonus will be an event that combines all previous events and puts them out in an even better format. This event should unlock double XP, double candy, and double stardust for all actions in the game.
