With the release of Shiny Meltan in Pokémon GO, the question arises as to how rare the shiny form of the Pokémon is. An analysis provides insight.
What happened? Since February 5, Shiny Meltan is in the game. You can only get this Pokémon from the Mystery Box, and many players have already opened their boxes.
Based on the results from the opened boxes, an analysis has now taken place on Reddit to show how rare the shiny Meltan is supposed to be.
This is the probability of getting Shiny Meltan
What does the analysis say? On Reddit, 350 Mystery Boxes were included in the analysis. On average, players received about 23 Meltan in one box, resulting in 8110 encounters.
- 8110 encounters with Meltan
- 202 Shiny Meltan were caught
- Shiny Rate: 1 in 40
What does the Shiny Rate tell us? Every 40th Meltan is roughly a Shiny. So you should open about two Mystery Boxes on average to encounter the desired Shiny. This is obviously just the probability and not a guarantee.
The chance of finding the shiny Meltan is surprisingly high therefore. On Community Days, you get Shinys with a chance of 1 in 25, and on special Shiny weekends about 1 in 50. Meltan falls in between.
With the start of the Meltan event, many players discussed the Shiny rate. Many expected a normal rate of 1 in 450. This is generally how it is handled with the release of Shinys.
What are my chances of getting Shiny Meltan? In the current event, there is a possibility that you will receive a Mystery Box every 3 days. If you play it smart, you can open 10 of these boxes and encounter about 230 Meltan. With such a high Shiny rate, you will almost certainly get a shiny Meltan.
