Pokémon GO is being taken over by Team Rocket today. All info about the event including time and bonuses can be found here.
When does the event start? The Rocket event starts today, Sunday at 11 AM and lasts for two hours. It ends at 1 PM and is comparable to a Community Day, which lasts 3 hours.
However, today is not about catching specific Pokémon – that will be a theme again at the Community Day in December. Today is all about Team GO Rocket.
What’s inside the Rocket event
This is happening in the event: Team GO Rocket takes over the world of Pokémon GO. And literally: Instead of only appearing at certain PokéStops, you will find Team GO Rocket members at every PokéStop during the event.
How to make the most of the event: The event is especially perfect for players who are still working on the Rocket research “A Long Shadow” or “An Uneasy Situation“.
As you will encounter plenty of Rocket Grunts, you have the perfect opportunity to craft the Rocket Radar using mysterious components. With it, you can challenge the Rocket bosses Cliff, Arlo, and Sierra, and even get to Giovanni. This gives you a chance at shiny Shadow Pokémon.

What else is there to do? Challenging the Rocket Grunts and bosses will be in focus during the event. However, Niantic also announced special field research projects.
Since some players have already been able to complete these quests in their countries, we know what to expect. The following quests await you:
- Defeat a Team GO Rocket Grunt
- Reward: Encounter with a Meowth, Rettan or Smogon (can all be shiny)
- Defeat 3 Team GO Rocket Grunts
- Reward: Encounter with a Pionskora or Felilou
- Defeat 3 Team GO Rocket Grunts
- Reward: 1000 Stardust
- Defeat a Team GO Rocket Boss
- Reward: 3 Rare Candies
Good news by the way, if you have been struggling with space for Pokémon and items recently:
