To celebrate the summer solstice, there was a regional swap in Pokémon GO.: Sonnfel and Lunastein swap their places. This is what it means for players in Germany.
What happened? In Pokémon GO, the regional monsters Sonnfel and Lunastein have swapped places. Niantic took the opportunity of the summer solstice to change the spawn locations of the two monsters.
Change of regional monsters
Via Twitter, Niantic announced on Thursday evening that the two monsters Sonnfel and Lunastein have changed places.
The reason is the solstice: June 21st was the longest day of the year 2018. The summer solstice marks the beginning of the summer season and hopefully brings Pokémon GO trainers many warm days in the coming weeks, so they can catch monsters outdoors and participate in raids. Niantic stated:
What are the current catch locations for Sonnfel and Lunastein?
- Sonnfel now appears in Europe, Australia, and Asia
- Lunastein now appears in North America, South America, and Africa
How long will the catch locations remain like this? It is still unclear when the two Pokémon will switch regions again.
Regional swaps have already occurred: Niantic previously changed the catch locations of Sengo and Vipitis. However, they did not provide a reason for this. Also, Minun and Plusle were once regional Pokémon, but suddenly both became catchable worldwide.
Since we do not know how long Sonnfel and Lunastein will remain in these locations, you should definitely catch them. They may also be good for the trading feature that is currently being unlocked. However, not all Pokémon GO trainers can trade yet.
