The start of Season 2 in the PvP league of Pokémon GO has been postponed. The reason is technical issues. An initial alternative date has been withdrawn.
What happened? Actually, the next PvP season in Pokémon GO was supposed to start today, May 1, 2020. However, issues are causing the start to be delayed. Niantic announced this on the official support account on Twitter.
Initially, the developers shared a timeframe for an alternative date, but then they retracted it. The Top TMs are an important feature that trainers can expect in Season 2.
Update from May 5: The new start date for Season 2 is on May 11, 2020. The developers wrote the following statement:
Trainers, we unfortunately had to address a technical issue before transitioning to Season 2 of the GO Battle League. Therefore, we are postponing the start of Season 2 to Monday, May 11, 2020 at 1 PM PDT (GMT -7). You will also be able to claim your rewards for the season’s end then.
As a note: 1 PM PDT corresponds to 10 PM German time.

Why is Season 2 not starting?
Niantic says: On the night of May 1, Niantic’s support account tweeted:
“Trainers, we have identified a technical issue that needs to be resolved before we proceed to Season 2 of the GO Battle League. For this reason, we are delaying the start of Season 2. We will release more details on our official channels soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
An alternative date on which Season 2 was supposed to start was not mentioned in this tweet. With the new PvP season, a lot is expected to change in Pokémon GO.
However, the developers had already published another one shortly before this tweet (via reddit). It stated:
“Trainers, we have identified a technical issue that needs to be resolved before we proceed to Season 2 of the GO Battle League. For this reason, we are delaying the start of Season 2 until the end of next week.”
They deleted the tweet shortly after. They removed the addition “until the end of next week” in the follow-up tweet. Apparently, Niantic is still undecided about the start of Season 2 and does not want to announce a fixed timeframe here.
It is possible that Season 2 will not be delayed until the end of next week, or even starts later.
