The upcoming Pokémon GO Fest raises some questions in the trainer community. When does it start, how can one participate, and at what times can one join?
In this overview, we want to answer the most common questions about GO Fest 2017.
Pokémon GO Fest – Event, Time, Rewards
The GO Fest is planned as the largest Pokémon GO event to date and will take place on July 22, 2017, in Chicago. However, that does not mean that only trainers present there can participate. Worldwide challenges and rewards await you. Additionally, there is a mysterious challenge that players are very eager about.
Worldwide Rewards for Participating in the GO Fest
Those who do not travel to Chicago can still participate in the event. Rewards include extended bonuses (such as stardust or extra EXP) and a mysterious challenge in the game.
This mysterious task is announced by Niantic as follows: “If trainers around the world manage to catch enough Pokémon, a special challenge will be revealed in Grant Park, which – once mastered – will unlock an additional special bonus worldwide.”
Trainers in Grant Park (Chicago) will have to complete a special challenge if trainers around the world have unlocked this through Pokémon catches. Afterward, all trainers worldwide will receive a “special bonus” when the task is completed in Chicago.
What kind of task this is remains unclear.
Is the task for legendary Pokémon?
No one can currently say for certain that the mentioned task and its reward involve legendary Pokémon. While the suspicion is strong, Niantic has not confirmed this yet.
Are the legendary Pokémon only available in Chicago?
Probably not. The announcement states that a “Mystery Challenge” will be revealed in Chicago: a mysterious challenge.
If it is solved, there should be a special bonus worldwide. If legendary Pokémon are released at the GO Fest, we suspect that they will also be available worldwide.
How You Can Participate in the GO Fest Event
During the GO Fest, there will be three time windows where you can participate in the event worldwide. These time windows are only active for 30 minutes each. During this time, you need to catch as many Pokémon as possible to extend the duration of the bonuses. It’s best to have a lure module ready during the event times and make yourself comfortable near PokéStops and nests.
The following image shows you when these time windows are active in Germany.
If trainers around the world catch particularly many Pokémon in the three time windows, the medals Bronze, Silver, and Gold will be unlocked. Bronze increases the duration of the bonuses by 24 hours, silver by 48 hours.
If we achieve the Gold Medal, the mysterious challenge will be unlocked.
