Mega-Monsters are among the strongest and toughest Raid Bosses in Pokémon GO. A Trainer demonstrates how he faced one alone.
What are Mega Evolutions? Mega Evolutions are evolutions that you can perform on certain monsters for a limited time. They make the corresponding monsters significantly stronger than their regular forms. The types of the monsters also change partially in this process.
Consequently, Mega Pokémon not only rank among the strongest attackers in Pokémon GO but also the toughest Raid Bosses you can face. A Trainer has shown how he successfully tackles such a challenge alone. He uses only a single monster – and it isn’t even at the maximum level.

Which monster did the Trainer defeat? The Raid Boss that the Trainer defeated is Mega Charizard X, one of the two Mega Evolutions of Charizard. The monster has the types Fire and Dragon and will be in Mega Raids until July 14, 2025.
How did he defeat Charizard? To defeat the strong boss, the Trainer relies solely on one monster: a Mega Garchomp. Interestingly, his monster is only at level 40. He did not need any XL candies to make the monster strong enough to defeat Charizard.
How it all looks can be seen in this video:
What is the Trainer’s strategy? As seen in the video, the Trainer has equipped his Mega Garchomp with Dragon attacks. Since Mega Charizard X is a Dragon type, his attacks are therefore very effective. Additionally, he only has his Garchomp and one other monster with him.
The second monster is only needed to leave the battle independently if Garchomp is defeated. This takes less time than the game’s notification that all your monsters have been defeated. Once Garchomp is defeated, he leaves the battle, revives, heals it, and returns to the fight.
Furthermore, the Trainer pays attention to the boss’s charged attacks and dodges them. At the end of the battle, the Trainer emerges victorious with only a few seconds left.
What tips does the Trainer have? In his post on Reddit, the Trainer has summarized some tips in case you want to try it yourself.
- your Pokémon should be at least level 40
- if you use a Dragon Pokémon, only fight against Mega Charizard X if it does not have Dragon Claw as its charged attack
- use Pokémon that deal very high damage per second: the Kyurem fusions, Mega Garchomp with Dragon attacks, Primal Groudon, or Mega Rayquaza
- use Top TMs
- pay attention to the weather boost
If you want to try the experiment yourself, you have until July 14, 2025, to do so. After that, the Raid Bosses will change. If you want to know which Raid Bosses and events are still waiting for you this month, take a look at our overview with all events in July 2025 in Pokémon GO.
