What kind of event is this? A Spotlight Hour is a short event that takes place every Tuesday. It lasts for 60 minutes, features at least one Pokémon, and has a bonus as well.
The Spotlight Hour on October 21, 2025, brings you, in keeping with the Halloween event, Gastly. The Ghost-Poison Pokémon is from the 1st generation and can evolve into Haunter and then into Gengar.
Spotlight Hour on October 21, 2025 – Start and Bonuses
When does the Spotlight Hour start? As always, the event starts at 6:00 PM and ends an hour later at 7:00 PM.
What bonus is active? If you catch Pokémon during this Spotlight Hour, you will receive double experience points for it. The bonus applies to all Pokémon, not just Gastly.
Additionally, there is a special bonus during this Spotlight Hour. If you catch Gastly, you can earn Mega Energy for Gengar. If you haven’t triggered this Mega Evolution yet, you should take the opportunity.
Can you catch Shiny Gastly? Yes. If you’re lucky, you might also stumble upon the Shiny variant of Gastly. However, the chance is not increased during the event.
Is the Spotlight Hour worth it? Gengar is still one of the best attackers in Pokémon GO. As both a Ghost and Poison attacker, it is a solid choice. Mega Gengar is even stronger. If you don’t have this evolution yet, you should take advantage of the Spotlight Hour and try to earn enough Mega Energy for the evolution.
In the Battle League, however, you should avoid Gastly and its evolutions. None of the three Pokémon are recommended here.
The bonus from the event can also be used to snag some extra experience points. This can be especially useful when you are looking to reach new levels after the big level 80 update.
