What is planned? Players of Pokémon GO know that the game is closely intertwined with the current local weather. For instance, certain Pokémon only spawn under specific weather conditions, like rain, or occur more frequently then. To visually convey this to trainers, the sky in the game adapts to the local weather conditions.
Players can see, among other things, clouds in the sky or a starry night sky in Pokémon GO. As Niantic has announced, there are a few new features planned for late summer (via pokemongolive.com). In this context, the local lighting and weather conditions are to be recreated in real-time using a new game mechanic.
What could the new weather feature look like?
Back in 2017, Niantic announced future improvements to the weather representation in the game. In this context, their graphic designer Dennis Hwang presented the company’s visions during the Game Developers Conference. The following YouTube video may provide insight into what trainers can expect with the current changes in the game.
As you can see in the video, it has long been Niantic’s wish to integrate a more realistic sky into Pokémon GO. Thus, the sunset in the game could look even more realistic than before. But also other weather conditions are expected to be better adapted to the real world in the game.
So far, there are unfortunately no confirmed reports on how the new real-time sky will look. However, this feature is currently being tested by select players. We will keep you updated on this topic and inform you when there are first images available.
