A fan project shows how Pokémon GO works with the HoloLens and how realistic the battles look “in real life.”
Could this be the future of Pokémon GO? Fans of the game have developed software that allows you to play Pokémon GO on the HoloLens. The HoloLens is an augmented reality headset that allows you to see 3D animations in natural environments. Unlike Pokémon GO for smartphones, you do not have to activate your camera to see the Pokémon in the nearby environment; instead, you wear glasses that display these animations. In the video, you can see what this fan project looks like.
Pokémon GO on the HoloLens
On Reddit, the developer Kennywdev presented his fan project, which received a lot of positive feedback in the comments. In the video, you can see the battles of the various Pokémon and how you can capture them with a PokéBall. In a menu, similar to the original Pokémon games, you can choose which attacks the Pokémon will use or what actions you want to perform as a trainer. If you encounter a wild Pokémon on your path, you can activate a battle and select the Pokémon that will fight for you. Then you can see, just like with the camera feature in the current Pokémon GO for smartphones, how the Pokémon appear in your environment.
This application for the HoloLens is currently not publicly accessible. Kennywdev mentioned that there will likely be a download link for the “Pokémon GO” fan project soon. However, no exact release date was provided. The only drawback if you want to try out this program is that the HoloLens developer kit currently costs €3,299. The price for a consumer version of this headset will likely be lower. When the HoloLens will be available for the “normal user” is currently unknown.
