You hope for new PokéStops in your area? This Ingress action could greatly help the Pokémon GO community.
Ingress is a popular game by Niantic that existed before Pokémon GO. Instead of walking to PokéStops, players interact with portals in Ingress. Through a new action with the community, players can now suggest new portals for the game.
The advantage for Pokémon GO players: Many of the portals will be turned into PokéStops or gyms for Pokémon GO.
New PokéStops
As Niantic announced on Twitter, “OPR” (Operation Portal Recon) is now active. This allows new portal locations to be suggested via the Ingress scanner. However, submissions can only be made by Ingress players who have reached level 11. So quickly registering and suggesting a few portals won’t work.
The “agents” from Ingress can then submit up to seven portals. Since the PokéStops and gyms in Pokémon GO are based on significant locations and portals from Ingress, Pokémon trainers can also be happy about the OPR action. However, not every portal will be turned into a stop or a gym.
One should still see an increase once the portals are approved. If there are Ingress players in the area, there will soon be good chances for new stops or gyms.
For the OPR project, Niantic uploaded a video. It explains what the project is about.
