For the first time, you can obtain Mega Camerupt in Pokémon GO. We will show you how to make the most of the Raid Day.
When is the event? The Raid Day featuring Mega Camerupt takes place on Sunday, September 28, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This is the first opportunity to obtain Mega Camerupt in the game.
What kind of Pokémon is this? Mega Camerupt is the Mega Evolution of Camerupt, which evolves from Camaub. All three evolutions have the Fire and Ground types. With this Mega Evolution, only three more Mega Evolutions are missing that are not yet in the game but already have a Mega Evolution in the main series games – until the release of Pokémon Legends Z-A.
Currently, only the two Mega Evolutions of Mewtwo and that of Metagross are still missing. However, Mega Metagross has already been announced in Pokémon GO.
Raid Day with Mega Camerupt – Content and Tips
What bonuses are available at the event? The following bonuses are active during the event:
- increased chance to obtain a Shiny Camerupt from Mega Raids
- up to 5 additional free Raid Passes from Gym Discs
- the limit for Remote Raids is raised to 20 (from September 28, 2025, at 2:00 AM to September 29, 2025, at 5:00 AM)
Note that you will only receive one additional Raid Pass if you have used the current one.
What content is available in the event ticket? For $4.99 (which is likely around €5.49), you can purchase an event ticket. This will grant you the following bonuses that are active during the event:
- up to 8 additional Raid Passes from Gym Discs
- increased chance for XL Candy in raids
- 50% more experience points in raids
- double Stardust from raids
How to obtain Mega Camerupt? If you defeat the boss in a raid, you can then catch the regular version of Camerupt. You will also receive Mega Energy for the evolution. Once you have gathered enough of it, you can trigger the evolution with a Camerupt.
To initiate the Mega Evolution for the first time, you need 200 Mega Energy.
Which counters are effective against the monster? Due to its type combination, Mega Camerupt has only a few weaknesses. It has a simple weakness to Ground-type moves and a double weakness to Water-type moves. Therefore, you should primarily use attackers with these types when challenging the monster.
If you have very strong Water attackers at a high level, you can defeat the boss solo. If your Pokémon are weaker, bring at least one other trainer with you. If possible, bring along the best counters against Mega Camerupt.
Which Mega Evolution is recommended for the event? If you activate a Mega Evolution of the Fire or Ground type and catch a Camerupt after a successful raid, you will receive an additional candy, benefit from an increased chance for XL candies, and earn more experience points. The Pokémon does not need to be in your active battle team.
To receive the additional rewards after a raid, you can use one of the following Pokémon:
- Mega Charizard X
- Mega Charizard Y
- Mega Houndoom
- Mega Blaziken
- Mega Aerodactyl
- Mega Aggron
- Mega Tyranitar
- Mega Diancie
Which buddy is worthwhile during the event? If you have Pokémon that can only evolve by having them as your buddy and then completing a certain number of raids, you can use the event for that and set the corresponding Pokémon as your buddy.
How should you proceed during the event? You should remember to prepare strong counters and activate a suitable Mega Evolution before the raids. While active in the event, you should proceed as follows:
- visit a gym
- defeat Mega Camerupt
- spin the gym disc to receive another Raid Pass
- head to the next gym and repeat the process
