In the end, you will encounter Volcanion. But what makes this Pokémon special? And how strong is it? We take a closer look at it here in the article.
Volcanion – Strengths and Weaknesses of the Mysterious Pokémon
What is special about Volcanion? Volcanion is known as the “Steam Pokémon” and has a type combination that exists only once in the entire Pokémon franchise. It combines the types Fire and Water.
This results in a special range of strengths and weaknesses when looking at the type chart.
- Volcanion is resistant to Bug and Fairy attacks
- It is particularly resistant to Fire, Ice, and Steel attacks
- It is weak against Electric, Ground, and Rock
In the main series, it has the ability “H2O Absorber,” which allows it to convert damage from Water attacks into HP. Unfortunately, since there are no abilities in Pokémon GO, this aspect is disregarded.
Is Volcanion a strong raid attacker? Volcanion can be used as a Water or Fire attacker, but it doesn’t really shine in either variant. There are usually better options in the list of the best raid attackers in Pokémon GO. Nevertheless, Volcanion is not completely out of the question in raids.
Is Volcanion strong in the PvP battle league? This depends on the league you send it to. Let’s take a look at the rankings of PvPoke.com.
- In the Great League, it only ranks 621. That’s not good, and Volcanion should be ignored here.
- In the Ultra League, it reaches position 302. Better than 621, but not good.
- In the Master League, Volcanion is ranked 33.
Thanks to its type combination, Volcanion has a few interesting matches against league favorites, which it wins. The new form of Zacian loses against Volcanion, just like the white Kyurem, Dialga, Necrozma, or Ho-Oh.
Use the moves Incinerate, Mud Bomb, and Heat Wave for that. Alternatively, you can use Earth Power instead of Mud Bomb to cover many types at once.
However, you should also be aware that other Pokémon still pose problems for Volcanion. These include Palkia, Rampardos, the black Kyurem, Zygarde, or Giratina.
Nevertheless, especially Zacian and Zamazenta are likely to become popular Pokémon in their new forms in the Master League. Having a Volcanion in your back pocket might not be the worst idea.
However, keep in mind that you will need a lot of candies for Volcanion to succeed in the Master League. And those are difficult to obtain.
