The research breakthrough for January and February in Pokémon GO is known. You have the chance to catch eight legendary Pokémon.
What is the research breakthrough? If you complete a field research task for 7 days, you will receive a research breakthrough. In it, you can receive not only a Pokémon but also items like the Sinnoh Stone.
In December, you had the chance to catch six legendary Pokémon. The Pokémon for January and February are now also known.
Little new in the research breakthrough
These Pokémon you can receive: You have the chance to catch Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, Suicune, Entei, Raikou, Lugia, and Ho-Oh. The first six Pokémon were already the reward in December. You will receive one Pokémon per breakthrough, which will be determined randomly.
The changes in the research breakthrough remain minimal. With Lugia and Ho-Oh, two Pokémon are added that have often been available as raid bosses.
Chance for Shinies: As many as five of these Pokémon can also be caught as Shiny. Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, Lugia, and Ho-Oh are also available in their shiny form. You can receive these in the research breakthrough.
How long is the research breakthrough available? You can receive these legendary Pokémon from the research breakthrough throughout January and February. Starting January 1st, at 10 PM, these Pokémon will be available in the breakthrough.

What else is new? Pokémon GO also announced new field research tasks for the two months. These are supposed to be popular tasks from previous months. In the December, you can solve field research tasks that were present in previous months.
A detailed list of field research tasks will not be available until January 1st. Until then, the tasks are still unknown.
