What is the Community Day? In Pokémon GO, an event called “Community Day” takes place once a month. During this event, monsters that learn special moves and are more frequently found in the wild take center stage. It’s an ideal event for collectors and for finding teammates. Because during the events, many trainers are out and about.
In July, you can expect many Squirtles. The evolution Blastoise can learn the move Hydro Pump, which it cannot learn outside of the event. We will show you why the Community Day is worthwhile for you and how to make the most of it here.

During the Community Day, you will encounter many Squirtles in the wild. If you evolve a Wartortle into Blastoise or catch a Blastoise during the event, it can learn the exclusive move Hydro Pump.
Hatching Eggs: The event is especially good for hatching eggs. Because the distance is reduced to a quarter of the actual distance.
But: You shouldn’t throw out all the incubators you have in your inventory right now. With the global rewards in summer, the premium incubators may be more worthwhile if you want to earn stardust.
Shiny Squirtle – What are the chances?
Will Shiny Squirtle also come in July? In every past Community Day in Pokémon GO, the Pokémon of the Day also appeared in its shiny form. Therefore, the chances of the Shiny form of Squirtle being available during the Community Day in July are very high. However, we can only say this for sure after the first trainers have caught these special monsters.
Update: Yes, there are also Shiny Squirtles in the wild. You can even catch the sunglasses Squirtle in its Shiny form.
Hydro Pump in Pokémon GO – Blastoise
If you evolve or catch a Blastoise during the Community Day, it can learn the special move “Hydro Pump”. This move is making its debut during the Community Day. How strong the move is remains to be seen. There are already strong water attackers like Kyogre and Gyarados – whether Blastoise can dethrone them is questionable.No TMs: The move Hydro Pump cannot be learned through TMs. A Wartortle must be evolved into a Blastoise during the event for it to learn Hydro Pump. If you catch a Blastoise, it can also know Hydro Pump from the start.
Squirtle with Sunglasses – Field Research
Special gimmick: The Pokémon GO developers want the Community Day in July 2018 to go down in the history of Pokémon GO. For this, they have special rewards for field research for you. If you complete field research during the event time from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, there is a chance that you will encounter Squirtle with sunglasses.
When will the new field research be available? After the start of the event, there will be many “Catch 5 Squirtles” quests. Completing them will give you the chance to encounter a sunglasses Squirtle.
You should definitely take advantage of this and add this monster to your collection. Trainers have been looking forward to these cool Squirtles for a long time. And they will definitely have collector’s value. Arguments for trading included!
Preparation for the Community Day
Many PokéStops: It’s best to go to a place with many PokéStops. If you want to catch many sunglasses Squirtles, you need to complete field research. To find new quests, you need to visit many stops.
Balls! You have the chance to catch an army of Squirtles. So pack a lot of balls of all types so you don’t run out during the event.
Lucky Eggs: It’s best to pack three. Because of the XP event, the eggs last for three hours. With three lucky eggs, you can cover the entire event period.
Lure Modules: The modules last for three hours during the event. So find a place with many stops and activate them there to catch many monsters.
Stardust pieces: During a Community Day, there are many opportunities to earn stardust. However, the same applies as with incense: If you have only a few of these items in your bag, you’d better use them for another event.
Incense: If you activate incense during your hunt, you increase the number of Pokémon encounters. Thus, the chances of encountering Shinys increase because you find more Squirtles. If you have few incense items in your bag, you should better save them for a more important Community Day.
Tips for Pokémon GO players during the Community Day
Very important: Do not place your eggs before the start of the event in the incubators. In the past, the reduced hatch distance only applied to eggs that were freshly placed in the incubators during an event. So wait a few minutes until you are sure that the Community Day is active. Only then should you place the eggs in the corresponding machine.
Distances remain after event: Eggs that are in incubators retain their reduced kilometers even after the event. So if you place a 10KM egg in your infinite incubator just before the event ends, it will still require a distance of only 2.5KM to hatch even after the Community Day ends.
